I got to know about Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) thanks to the stories of my brother and since the first moment I felt attracted by this university. Thus, I started to surf on the university website, read various reviews and then I realized that I really wanted to study there. When I sent my application documents I was very surprised how the appointed staff was worried for each of its students. |
VMU international office explained me all the important questions and was always ready to help me. When I received the acceptance letter I was pleased very much. But the idea of leaving towards a new country without family and friends started to scare me. When I arrived to Kaunas I was very worried because I knew that I was going to begin a new page of my life.
After the first lecture I noticed the existence of a great difference between Ukrainian universities and VMU. First, for the different teaching methods. Teachers here seem to be like friends for the students: they explain all the topics clearly and teach the material in a very interesting manner. Secondly, for modernization of all the lectures. All items can be found on Moodle and this allows students to learn by themselves. This was great, even though, initially, it was very difficult for me. Everything was unfamiliar to me. Plus it was difficult to study for me because my level of English at that time was low. I started to improve it and tried to study a lot, performing all the tasks. I met many interesting people from all over the world.
But my home was in my heart, I terribly missed my family, sometimes there were moments when I wanted to drop everything and come back home. When the first semester was over, it was a great feeling to come back home. But there I realized that I missed Kaunas, for my new friends and lectures. From the second semester I started to participate in various university projects, go on trips, and had more rest. I had more free time because I got used to everything and knew what to expect. Because of this I was able to finish the second semester with good grades.
I am very happy that I started to study here. The atmosphere of this university cannot be compared to any other. Lithuanians are very hospitable and friendly people. They always tried to help me in order to make my stay in Kaunas the most comfortable possible. In addition I discovered Lithuania as a beautiful country with amazing places.
VMU is a wonderful university. It combines a lot of things and opens up new opportunities. And if someone had asked me if it might have been better to choose something else for myself, I would have confidently said NO! In spite of the difficulties that arose at the beginning, my current study experience is the best for me. I hope that in future my diploma, as well as the skills and knowledge that I learnt at VMU will help me to find a good job and to be successful in the life. But so far this thought does not really touch me. For now I am participating in different projects, meeting interesting people, doing what I like and simply enjoying studying.
